There are many roof design options available and each one can change the complete look of your new home. The traditional hipped design has come a long way and the skillion, gable, curved and flat roof options are only the beginning.

In deciding upon the final design some points to consider are:

• The overall aesthetics of the home
• Council regulations and heights
• Complexity of design and will keeping things simple end up being easier and more cost effective on site
• Wind speeds, certain designs are better suited in cyclonic areas
• Depth of the eaves for shade and heating
• Internal design, will the internal ceilings be flat or on the rake
• Insulation and air space, what type of insulation are you using
• External colour of the roof sheeting, fascia’s and gutters
• Proximity to salt air, there may be the need for a specialised and protective product to ensure longevity
• Sunlight, will there be skylight windows or ceiling skylights
• Acoustic, roofing systems can alter the sound levels both from the inside and the outside of the home
